Question: What has 60 gas pumps, 31 cash registers, 36 stalls in the ladies room, 80 soda fountain dispensers,  and a very large rodent lurking outside?Buc

Answer: Buc-ee’s!

The new $7.4 million travel center on I-35 in New Braunfels is the largest convenience store in the world, spread across 18 acres and featuring a 67,000 square foot stucco and stone store.photo (24)

“This is just another step in Buc-ee’s quest to take over the world one clean restroom at a time,” the store’s manager joked in a recent newspaper article.

Buc-ee’s is a south Texas-only operation, and is worth the drive from almost anywhere just for the experience.

But then, Buc-ee’s isn’t just a gas station.

Need a t-shirt? Want some fresh bulk jerky or a full meal? Need a dozen oranges? Want a new grill? Or, maybe you’re thinking about a new handgun case, or a bag of deer feed, or a jar of pickled quail eggs.  What about a Texas-themed coffee cup, toy, purse, jewelry, pillow or sundress for that special someone?

Or maybe you’re just into big rodents. Buc-ee’s grinning beaver face can be found on all of the above, and more.

While that seems like an awful lot of cars, consider that an estimated 86,000 vehicles pass along this stretch of I-35 between Austin and San Antonio each day.

Now THAT’s something to chew on.

Oh, yes – the name. One of the partners in this amazing enterprise is nicknamed “Beaver”.
